I have a DAO based MFC app that inserts 40 byte rows into a JET 3.5 MDB.
All of the machines on our network run NT 4.0 WKS and have the MDAC 1.5c
installed.
If I
1. insert the data into the MDB across the network
2. insert the data into the MDB on the same machine
I find that in either case I can only insert 3400 rows/second. I am only
inserting 136 kbytes/second into the mdb. I have seen bottle necks like
this before
with MS SQL 6.5. When I eventually wrote code that was DBLIB based and
commited once
for every 10,000 rows inserted, I found that I could fly.
What is the secret to insert 34,000 rows/second into JET? The bandwidth
requirements are a modest 1.3mbytes/second. Is there some sort of parameter
that I need
to turn on/off? Is there an undocumented API?

There are a bunch on your cd in the samples directory, but I'd reccommend
reading up on it first. I'm in the middle of learning this stuff, and the
Dr. Gui columns on the MSDN (http://www.microsoft.com/msdn) web site are
very helpful!

Ah, now that I've gotten that out of my system (I'm on a contract doing Y2K
assurance, so I get to see that kind of thing all day...)
Read up on archives. Read about CString and CDate. Look at CStdioFile. Check
out the CArray template classes.

Is it possible to display a Dlg or progress screen during OnOpenDocument ?
My prog takes a couple of seconds to load and process a file and I`d like to
show a progress bar. Problem is I can`t figure out how to display a screen
until OnOpenDocument returns.

Hello, all.
Can anyone suggest a way to terminate IE4 from another application (no, not
from Netscape - <g>). Ordinarily, if you use ::SendMessage(), passing the
correct handle of a running app as the first parameter, WM_CLOSE for the
second parameter, and zeroes for the third and fourth parameters, the app
"goes away" nicely, thankyouverymuch. But NOT IE4, which is the first app
I've run across that seems "immune" to this.
There obviously must be a way to do it, because Task manager can certainly
make quick work of dispatching IE4. I've only tried using the handle of IE4's
main frame window (that's all I've ever needed before with every other
victim), but is there something else that has to be destroyed first? Does the
fact that IE4 is an ActiveX critter make any difference?
I'm doing this from within an MFC app, but I'm not using MFC's SendMessage(),
which only works on windows within the app that calls the function (as it
doesn't take an external handle as one of its parameters). Calling the
Windows API SendMessage() function has worked with every other app before, but
IE4 has me "stumped".
Does anyone have any suggestion on "how to kill the thing"? Thanks.
Environment: VC++ 5.0, Win 95/NT4, IE4 (4.01).
