JBuilder 9
JBuilder 9 is the most comprehensive set of award-winning, visual
development tools for creating pure Java, platform-independent
business applications, applets, servlets, and JavaBeans for the Java 2
platform.
System Requirements
256 MB (recommended minimum)
512 MB (recommended)
700 MB hard disk space (depending on features installed)
Microsoft? Windows 2000 (SP2), XP, or NT 4.0 (SP6)
Intel? Pentium? II 233 MHz or compatible
Please read these instructions entirely before installing JBuilder 9.
Install JBuilder 9.
Register JBuilder 9.
For additional information on
configuring and using JBuilder 9, please see the Release Notes.

To use the Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) Functionality, choose
Tools|Configure Servers the first time you run JBuilder 9 to setup the
application server of your choice.
Installing and configuring the Borland Enterprise Server
See the instructions in the Borland Enterprise Server 5.2 Release
Notes for information on installing and configuring the Borland
Enterprise Server 5.2.
The serial number and key for the Borland Enterprise Server are provided
in the Installation and Licensing Instructions pamphlet in your
JBuilder 9 product box.
Configuring JBuilder for Mobile development
Support of J2ME Mobile development is automatically installed if you
choose a Full installation of JBuilder; a separate serial number and key
is not required.
JBuilder delivers and sets up one J2ME JDK, Sun's Java (TM) 2 Platform
Micro Edition, Wireless Toolkit (J2MEWTK1.0.4). Additional J2ME JDKs can
be downloaded and installed from individual vendors.
JBuilder supports mobile development for the specific JDKs listed below,
as well as for all UEI compatible emulators To use these supported
JDKs, you must download them from the vendor and install them on your
computer, then set them up in JBuilder.
For instructions on installing and setting up J2ME JDKs, see
Installing a J2ME JDK in the Mobile development setup instructions.
To go to the download site for each of these JDKs, click on the name
of the JDK below.
Sun JavaTM 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2METM) Wireless Toolkit for
Windows.
J2MEWTK 2.0 will work with Mobile development except for some UI
designer features: the ability to control the UI layout and to drop
the new components that come with J2MEWTK 2.0 into the design from the
component palette. If you use J2MEWTK 2.0, you will have to add the
new components by hand, and manually code the layout of the components.
The Solaris and Linux versions of the Sun WTK are also available for
download from Sun. You can use them with JBuilder Mobile development
on the Solaris and Linux platfroms, however they are currently
unsupported by Sun and have undergone only limited testing.

Installing JBuilder 9
JBuilder 9 contains a version of JDK 1.4.1. You should use this
version instead of any earlier version that you might have.
Installation Options
The JBuilder 9 installation program provides these options:
Installation Installs the following components
Borland JBuilder 9 Borland JBuilder 9 Enterprise Features
Borland Enterprise Server AppServer Edition Installs the Borland
Enterprise Server AppServer Edition so you can use Borland Enterprise
Server for your J2EE application development and deployment.
Borland Optimizeit Suite Installs the Borland Optimizeit Suite so you
can use all of the Optimizeit performance tools.
Install JBuilder 9
To install JBuilder 9:
If the installation launcher is not running, double-click on
install_windows.exe in the jbuilder9 directory of your JBuilder 9 CD
to start the installation.
Click the "Borland JBuilder 9 Enterprise " button to start the
installer.
Read the information provided, then click Next.
Accept the license agreement when prompted, then click Next.
Select the installation option you want: Full, Minimum, or Custom.
Choose the components you want to install, then click Install.
Choose the directory where you want JBuilder 9 installed, then click
Next. Do not choose a directory that contains spaces in its name.
JBuilder will not run if the name of the directory in which it is
installed contains spaces.
Review the installation options that you have selected. If the options
are correct, then click Install to begin the installation.
When the installation program is completed, click Done.
Installation Notes
Problems using the main installation launcher
If you encounter errors when installing JBuilder 9 using the main
installation launcher, you can install each component separately: The
sequence of installation is important, so install them in this order:
ent_install.exe in the Windows directory on your JBuilder 9 product CD.
Install Borland Optimizeit Suite 5.5 according to the instructions in
the Borland Optimizeit Suite 5.5 Installation Instructions.
Install the Borland Enterprise Server 5.2 according to the
instructions in the Borland Enterprise Server 5.2 Release Notes.
The installation program appears to hang during exit
Under some circumstances, it may take a long time for the installation
program to exit and close after completion. Do not forcibly exit the
program; it will eventually close down successfully.

Uninstalling JBuilder 9
To uninstall JBuilder 9, do one of the following:
Run the following from the directory where you installed JBuilder 9:
UninstallEnterprise\UninstallEnterprise.exe.
Choose Start|Programs|Borland JBuilder 9 Enterprise|Uninstall Borland
JBuilder 9 Enterprise.
Choose Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove programs and select "Borland
JBuilder 9 Enterprise" from the list.
