Below is my translation of the English introduction to the
well known "Scheherazade" composed by Rimsky-Korsakov. I'd love to
hear any criticisms and suggestions! Thanks.

                 Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov
                         1887-88

'Scheherazade', Symphonic Suite Op 35. Suite of four pieces for
orchestra. Length 41 minutes (9 + 11 + 10 + 11). The rhapsodic violin
theme that denotes 'Scheherazade' is very familiar and the piece has
appeared in films including 'A Clockwork Orange'.

里姆斯基-科萨柯夫的《天方夜谭》交响组曲，是他的第35号作品，为乐队
演奏的四部套曲，总长41分钟。狂想特色的小提琴旋律代表了“山鲁佐德”，
为许多人所熟悉，该旋律在很多电影中出现，包括“发条橙子”。

In the 'Arabian Nights', Scheherazade was under an execution order by
the royal court, but kept telling such good stories that every night her
executioners postponed the event to hear the next episode.

在“天方夜谭”中，山鲁佐德随时有被国王处死的危险，但她一直讲一些精彩的
故事，使得行刑者忍不住要等着听下去，从而一次次地推迟行刑。

Rimsky took inspiration from the exotic and mystic tales from the
lands of Islam. He always denied that the piece was programmatic, that
it was not meant to go with any specific sequence of stories or events
from the 'Arabian Nights'. It was just, he said, a kaleidoscope of
fairytale images and colours.

里姆斯基从伊斯兰教国家的那种异国情调的神秘故事中获得灵感。他一直否认
这部作品是按照《一千零一夜》中的故事顺序创作的，据他所说，作品只是对
神话形象、神话色彩进行的万花筒般的描绘。

Scheherazade's theme, sinuous and dusky on the solo violin, is heard
at the start and keeps reappearing in various colours and moods. Despite
what Rimsky said, the four movements have very specific images in their
titles: 'The Sea and Sinbad's Ship'; 'The Kalender Prince'; 'The
Young Prince and Princess'; and 'Festival at Baghdad' - 'The Sea'.
Rimsky later regretted the titles and withdrew them, but 'Prelude,
Balade, Adagio, Finale' (his preferred alternatives) don't seem as
enticing.

以小提琴奏出的山鲁佐德的旋律婉转而神秘，在乐曲一开始就出现，然后以不同
的色彩和情绪反复出现。虽然里姆斯基有自己的说法，但这四个乐章仍然都各自有
非常具体的形象，以标题标出：“大海和辛巴达的船”、“卡伦德王子的故事”、
