Chaoshan Manifesto

Today, I feel privileged to give a speech here to all Chaoshanese! As an offspri
ng cultivated in Chaoshan Area and influenced by our essences of Chaoshan Cultur
e, I today, stand on this stage to declare my Chaoshan Manifesto. And sincerely,
from the bottom of my heart, I am given the courage and fire to ask all Chaosha
nese to stick together here; I am given the passion and pride to call on Chaosha
nese to unite together here; I am given the fate and destiny to devote myself to
all Chaoshanese! That is how the Chaoshan Manifesto will come out today!

“Chaoshanese are just doing well in a variety of businesses.” Such a comment w
ill go into your ears when you introduce yourselves as Chaoshanese. You even thi
nk this kind of comment sounds pleasant! However, today, I should say no to the
comment here! Why? My Chaoshan fellows, you all take a look at the comment and t
ake a deep reflection on it, “Chaoshanese are JUST doing well in a variety of b
usinesses”. You all will read between the lines. Such a comment means that we C
haoshanese are good for nothing but only for businesses. Do you all see that mea
ning now? This is the real meaning inside such a comment! But does this meaning
tell the truth to other people all over the country? My answer is no!

“Chaoshanese are clever at businesses.” this is an undeniable truth! We Chaosh
anese enjoy an ability to do successful businesses for years, but on the other h
and, we Chaoshanese also enjoy other abilities to do other successful things. So
me people say we are not good at study! However, I’ll say we Chaoshanese refuse
to accept such a comment! And I will say we Chaoshanese present our elites to p
eople from all corners of our country! There is a fact ahead of not only us but
also people from other parts of this great land. The fact is: years in and years
out, one generation after another, we Chaoshanese fertilize talents and transmi
t them to everywhere on this great land. We Chaoshanese have got geniuses in Tsi
nghua University, prestigious educators in education departments, successful for
eign affair officials in the Ministry of North America Foreign affairs and so fo
rth. In a word, we Chaoshanese have got all types of intellectuals in all fields
of knowledge. This is the evidence to prove against the ridiculous comment that
we are NOT GOOD AT STUDY. We have an army of intellectuals! So, I’m here today
to ask all Chaoshanese intellectuals to identify you to other people. Let them
know Chaoshanese intellectuals are everywhere to see and everywhere to hear. Let
them know Chaoshanese intellectuals are just there cooperating with them on the
great causes for our nation. Let them know we Chaoshanese can be talents in kno
wledge not just in trade! Therefore, here comes the first provision of Chaoshan
Manifesto:

Say loudly and proudly, I am A CHAOSHANESE!

Nowadays, we Chaoshanese have earned a reputation for successful businesses. Any
how, another bad fame comes to our ears that Chaoshanese are playing “GOOD” ch
eats on businesses. So words like that spread about the whole nation. “Chaoshan
ese deserve what they should not have deserved”. Well, these words can in some
extent be true, but these words will never be the image of we Chaoshanese in the
business world. Such black sheep among we Chaoshanese will not have their ferti
lization any more. To keep the nice and good image of honest and decent business
men, we should purge those black sheep from ethnic Chaoshanese! To consolidate t
he reputation of doing successful businesses, we should seek our best to perfume
the stench of playing tricks on trade. To preserve the good name given for year
s, we should take effective measures to eliminate those cheat performers. Theref
ore, I, today, assemble you here to feel the call from the bottom of my sincere
and loyal heart, to the call from the decency and dignity of being a Chaoshanese
! So, here is another provision of Chaoshan Manifesto:

As a Chaoshanese tradesman, I a committed to the decency and dignity of a good t
radesman for ever and ever!

Though we Chaoshanese enjoy the reputation, in Chaoshan Area, the economy is vag
ue! We Chaoshanese are inborn to perceive opportunities for trade. In the durati
on of recent years, however, we have lost thousands of opportunities to earn acc
esses to international trades and transnational investments. So a high expectati
on that we have been seeking our best to boost the economic growth has become bu
bble. Why? Some explain that Chaoshan Area is not a potential market for transna
tional transactions and investments; some explain that Chaoshan Area can’t prov
ide a legion of workforce. To these explanations, my simple but striking answer
is one word: NO! We have earned and preserved the name of remarkable reproductiv
e capacity for years. We surely have a legion of consumers; we surely see an exp
losion of workforce awaiting for employment! We surely have sufficient markets a
nd potential markets for exploitation! But why do we fail to boost the economy?
I feel an impulse to unveil the failure to boost the economy. This impulse is no
t from my nature of irrational excitement; this impulse id definitely from my vo
cation and my commitment to the great causes of ethnic Chaoshanese! The reason w
hy we fail to boost the economy is that we have unexpectedly and critically terr
ible environment for public security! The larceny, the robbery, the murder, the
drug smuggling and the prostitution floods into our life continually. Can such a
n environment ensure security and safety for transactions and investments? The a
nswer is obviously clear to all. Therefore, what can we Chaoshanese do? Another
provision of Chaoshan Manifesto sees us through:

Given the blood of ethnic Chaoshanese, the conscience and appreciation for justi
ce cement us together to fight against those criminal activities! Given the etho
s of union, we are doomed to extinguish all stenches of evils. Therefore, we are
born as noble Chaoshanese!

We tackle all difficulty and hardship! We overwhelm all evil stenches! We stand
on the ground together, united with one heart and one mind, to fight for our rep
utations, our future and our justice! Therefore, Chaoshan Manifesto summons all
ethnic Chaoshanese to hear our ethos, our hearts and our souls! Chaoshan Manifes
to comes out in a sentence: given the bloodline of ethnic Chaoshanese, he or she
takes all burdens to win honors and fames and to preserve them!

My fellow citizens, the dangers to our country and the world will be overcome.
We will pass through this time of peril and carry on the work of peace. We will
defend our freedom. We will bring freedom to others and we will prevail.
